Lisa Chow, HCM Product Manager Director at Oracle, recently gave an overview of what’s new and exciting in the world of PeopleSoft Time and Labor. There are some new pages, some old pages made new again, and new navigation.
In her presentation, Lisa walked through how to use the pages, which device they should be used on, and the configuration that will help your organization make the pages meet your needs. She also showed the new Navigation Dashboard, which will make presenting the pages to time reporters easier.
Navigation Dashboard
Time Navigation Collection was recently changed to a dashboard. There were a few reasons behind the change to dashboard navigation.
- Now, users can create dashboards to match their Time Reporter Type. Dashboards are much easier to configure than navigation collections.
- Time reporters can personalize their own dashboards and make them work in a specially tailored way.
- Fewer clicks are required to navigate, which saves time.
- Administrators can still make tiles required, and they’re able to fix the position of the tiles.
When logged into the dashboard, the user will have a tile for every item that was previously in the Time Navigation Collection. All of these tiles are in one convenient location. It’s easy to add, remove, or rearrange tiles on the dashboard. Users can make their dashboards look and operate in a way that is most comfortable for them.
However, administrators can also manage dashboard pages for employees. They can select what tiles should be included on the dashboard, and they can configure the settings in a way that prevents users from deleting or rearranging certain tiles. Tiles can be set as optional, required, or required with a fixed location. Administrators can also control who can see dashboards based on security permission lists.
Employee Self-Service
PeopleSoft Time and Labor has several new and renewed Employee Self-Service Pages. There are mobile phone pages, desktop/laptop/tablet pages, and device independent pages.
Mobile phone pages can be used on other devices but work best on mobile phones. Some of the mobile phone pages include Report Time (geared toward Punch Time Reporters) and Weekly Time Entry (geared toward Elapsed Time Reporters).
Weekly Time Entry, one of the mobile phone pages, is a new page in PeopleSoft Time and Labor. It is designed for Elapsed Time Reporters. It gives them more of a “rapid” time entry. Since they are on a mobile phone, they don’t want time entry to be a complicated process. They can copy time from Schedule or Previous Week. It includes a status bar that shows the reported time vs. scheduled time. It’s a matter of simply selecting the days, the time reporting code, and the number of hours.
The Report Time page was also recently renewed. It is designed for Punch Time Reporters. The page shows a running clock of the time and when the last time punch occurred. It also shows the employees reported status comparing reported hours vs. scheduled hours. It lets them do a one-click submission when punching in or out. They can also override the punch type.
Desktop/laptop/tablet pages include Enter Time or Time Summary. Due to their complexity and size, they’re not conducive for mobile devices.
The Enter Time page is known as the Fluid time sheet. It can be used by either Elapsed or Punch Time Reporters. The design changes based on the type of reporter. The daily status bar is configurable so users can change the colors, patterns, or make it not show at all. The Enter Time page can be used with or without Schedules.
The Time Summary page is a fairly new page with recently added functionality. It can be used by either Elapsed or Punch Time Reporters. Users can view reported or payable time. They can also view by the current period or a selected period like weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Viewing by the current period is the default option.
Device independent pages will work on any device. Some examples of these pages include View Exceptions, Setup Quick-Fill, Weekly Time Summary, and Payable Time.
Manager Self-Service
In Manager Self-Service, the same basic pages are used. Managers see basically what the people who report to them are seeing. The same device recommendations (mobile, desktop, laptop, tablet, etc.) apply to Manager Self-Service pages as Employee Self-Service pages.
Some of the major differences between Manager Self-Service and Employee Self-Service include:
- The employee selector on the time components for managers
- Navigation links and buttons on pages for employees
- Approvals on the Enter Time page for managers
- No team Time dashboard
The Manager Self-Service Employee Selector allows a manager to select one of their direct reports to view their name, title, exceptions, and hours that need to be approved. The manager can also view the employee’s daily summary of hours, which lets them see their total hours for the day, when they punched in/out, and when they took a short break or a lunch break. Employee punch patterns can be customized for those with different types of work schedules. From there, they can approve, deny or push back an employee’s time. Delegation tools allow managers to act as themselves or as another manager.
