On November 8th, JD Edwards Tools Release 9.2.3 was released. Right before the new release, Jeff Erickson gave a breakdown of what to expect in 9.2.3 and now those roadmap items have become a reality. Check out the enhancements that you can enjoy in Tools 9.2.3.
Enablement Framework
Message Center
This improved Message Center makes it easier for users to get Notifications, Watchlists and Messages to Work Centers; this a simple way to search, group, delete, etc. Additionally, it creates more streamlined processes.
My Worklist
My Worklist is a dashboard that shows the Message Center, Orchestration Health and Watchlists in one place. It applies the Alert, Analyzes, Act paradigm to keep users alert and on-task. Users can also search, group, sort, etc. within My Worklist.
Orchestrator Monitoring
Orchestrator Monitoring allows Business Analysts, System Administrators or Orchestration Designers to see how Orchestrations are performing. The improved diagnostics shows them if Orchestrations are healthy, performing in a timely fashion or if they have failed. It keeps them informed in case they need to take action regarding a specific Orchestration quickly.
Real-Time Orchestrations
This was a feature that was highly requested by users. With Tools 9.2.3, users can now launch Orchestrations from a Table Event. This real-time Orchestration will result in real-time Notifications that can improve the user’s efficiency and keep them more up-to-speed about what is happening in their business.
Extensibility Framework
The Extensibility Framework features will allow users to reduce complexity, retire customizations, simplify data entry and personalize on the glass. Users can personalize features to make them their own without piling up customizations that create barriers to staying current.
Adding Business View Columns on Forms
Users have been able to add Business View Columns onto query applications since 9.2.2. Now with Tools 9.2.3, you can also add Business View Columns to entry forms as well. Once you’ve added the fields to the form, you can also create an Orchestration that can input those and consume them back out of the forms.
User Defined Objects Management
With the vast number of UDOs now in JD Edwards, it’s important for customers to be able to manage, properly secure and move UDOs. User Defined Objects Management makes it simple and controllable. With UDO Management, customers can inquire and view UDO dependencies—allowing them to scan, retrieve and store UDO dependencies on Composite Pages and inquire on UDO view security records. This gives them the ability to copy view security records from one user/role to another, easily add new or existing UDOs to an OMW project and copy an OMW project that contains UDOs.
System Administration Enablement Framework
Reference Architecture
This highly available architecture helps streamline support processes and leveraging it in the Cloud gives insight into what customer configuration and setup looks like. It also allows JD Edwards EnterpriseOne to “run mission-critical processes during scheduled and unscheduled downtime,” according to the Oracle document on Tools 9.2.3. This Reference Architecture will give you a “blueprint” for your Cloud implementation and will allow you to build on the experiences of others.
Improving the Foundation
64-bit Enablement
While several components have already been 64-bit enabled for years, Oracle has been monitoring the idea of 64-bit enablement at the Enterprise Server side for quite some time. That idea is coming to light with Tools 9.2.3. Many vendors of third-party components are already only delivering 64-bit components. Now customers can future-proof their systems by going to the latest versions of JAVA that are 64-bit and leveraging 64-bit database drivers. Customers will have the choice of when to enable 64-bit in their environments but it’s important to know that 64-bit is only supported on Applications Release 9.2. Platform Changes
Upcoming Certifications
There are several upcoming certifications coming to JD Edwards in Tools 9.2.3, including:
- Microsoft Visual Studio 2017
- Mozilla Firefox 60 ESR
- Apple iOS 12
- Oracle Database 18c
- Oracle Access Manager & Oracle Internet Directory “12c”
Retiring Certifications
There are also several certifications retiring after the release of 9.2.3. Starting this year, the following certifications will be retired:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2012
- Microsoft Visual Studio 2010
- Mozilla Firefox 45 ESR
Also, the following certifications are planned to retire starting in Winter of 2019:
- Microsoft Windows 7, 8.1
- Microsoft SQL Server 2014
- Oracle Weblogic Server 12.1.3
Additional retirements include Workflow Modeler (64-bit foundation), Unified Login on Windows Server and JDBNET.
