What’s Coming Next for JD Edwards Tools

JD Edwards Tools is continuously being improved and delivered to JD Edwards users roughly ever quarter. Jeff Erickson, Senior Director of Product Management at Oracle, presented at INFOCUS 18 about what’s new with Tools and what users can expect to see in the future.

What we learned about plans for Tools:

Orchestrator and Notifications Enhancements

One enhancement in the plans is an Improved Message Center that will be your one-stop shop for notifications, Work Center messages and Watchlists. The Message Center pulls in information from Work Center and allows you to filter, sort, search and group information. Overall, it makes it easier to manage your work.

Orchestrator Monitoring is also in the plans, and it will track when orchestrations fail. It will show you the health of an orchestration at a glance and provide you with improved diagnostics. It is also a potential building block for autonomous processing moving forward.

Real Time Orchestrations are another planned enhancement that will provide immediate notifications when something changes in your systems. You will be able to call an orchestration off of a table trigger and fire off a notification or related action as soon as something changes in your system. This allows you to take real-time action to address any limits that are met or any problems that occur.

Platform Changes

There are a few upcoming certifications that are planned for Tools. These certifications include Microsoft Visual Studio 2017, Mozilla Firefox 60 ESR, Apple iOS 12, Oracle Database 18c, Oracle Access Manager and Oracle Internet Directory “12c.”

There are also a number of certifications that will retired between 2018 and 2019. Microsoft Windows Server 2012, Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and Mozilla Firefox 45 ESR will be retired in 2018. Starting in the winter of 2019, Microsoft Windows 7 8.1, Microsoft SQL Server 2014 and Oracle WebLogic Server 12.1.3 will be retired.

64-bit Enablement

Plans for Tools include 64-bit Enablement within the Enterprise server that will maximize the current JD Edwards architecture. Customers will have the control to choose when to enable 64-bit. It will support Applications Release 9.2 and will be enabled with Tools Release 9.2.3.

Feature Retirement

There are a few features that are planned for retirement including Workflow Modeler (64-bit Foundation), Unified Logon on Windows Server and JDBNET.

The current Workflow Modeler has no 64-bit component, and one will not be delivered. Your existing Workflows will still work the same way, but if you need to change components, you will need to use a 32-bit DEV Client to change models.

Unified Logon is being retired simply because not many people use it, and it is actually a security hole as well. Similarly, only a small number of users are using JBDNET anymore because it was developed when there were not a lot of standard database drivers, which is no longer the case.
