Now that we have discussed Step 3 of our Selective Adoption strategy, “Stay Informed,” we can move on to the fourth and final step: “Measure Your Progress.” Sometimes it can be easy to walk away from a project after it has been successfully implemented, moving on to other things, but in the case of Selective Adoption I suggest you avoid that approach. Since Selective Adoption is a continuous model, it means you should continue to check on how your system is performing and strive to grow your technology.
There are two key pieces of measuring your Selective Adoption process. First, make sure your maintenance strategy makes sense and is being followed. If you plan to perform annual maintenance, do it. If at any point your testing schedule needs to be reevaluated, then take the time to do so. It’s important to have a repeating testing schedule and be flexible enough to evaluate if it still make sense for your business process.
The other piece is to continue regularly adopting features, which is a key deliverable of Selective Adoption. It’s not only important for the tech team to be adopting high-value features, but also to make sure that end users are utilizing them. Keep an open line of communication between your technical and business users to ensure the right features are being appropriately implemented.
The concept of measuring your progress might sound simple, but often times it is the first thing to go. I advise you not to let that happen! As your company grows, your business processes will change and it will become increasingly important to measure your feature adoption and testing progress to make sure you are still doing what is best for your business.
