Quest got a chance to host Quest Experience Week’s insightful presentation by Ulrich Johannes regarding how to implement roles in JD Edwards World, A9.3/A9.4. Let’s talk about a few things we learned.
Growing city nestled in North Carolina mountains
The city of Fayetteville is the 6th largest municipality in North Carolina with a population nearing 210,000. It may be best known for its native army base at Fort Bragg. The JD Edwards functionalities that Johannes uses for the city’s IT team include Financials, Human Capital Management, Inventory, Shop Floor and Procurement.
“Today we are in for a journey of implementing roles!” says Johannes. The City of Fayetteville embarked on their role implementation process, which all started with the dispatch of JD Edwards World A6.2 back in 1994. Five years later, the city implemented JD Edwards A7.3. 2014 ushered in the A9.3; it was this year that the city brought in the newest update — JD Edwards World A9.4.
Why implement roles?
According to Ulrich, some reasons to implement roles in JD Edwards include:
- Simplifying user admin tasks
- Enhancing security
- Improving customer satisfaction
- Updating look/feel of user experience
One of Fayetteville’s success secrets is documenting your configurations before you proceed. Also, allow time for trial and error, and name roles as soon as possible for maximum efficiency.
