Advanced application interface server (AIS) technologies position companies for greater business strategy, technological capabilities and competition, according to A.J. Schifano, product manager at Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.
Digital transformation means taking full advantage of the latest and greatest in AIS and Orchestrator, connecting users’ applications to the modern world. The biggest plus side is that developers don’t have to work very long to create these Orchestrations, and some orchestrations are even pre-built.
For example, you can add condition-based maintenance alerts, updates to meter readings, changes to equipment locations, Kanban check-in/checkout and blend operations: these are pre-constructed orchestrations that will take zero time to build and only a brief moment to implement.
In short, Orchestrator is a workforce development tool that can schedule workflows within your environment. As the interface between IoT devices and EnterpriseOne applications, Orchestrator sets your business apart from the competition. It’s also an inbound/outbound, REST-based integration, a platform to Oracle Cloud services and 3rd-party systems; a guard that protects your data; a bot that automates error-prone processes; a notification engine AND a catalyst for using JD Edwards in the digital economy.
Schifano describes Orchestrator as the tool that helps convert valuable data, which he calls “digital gold” into a living and breathing set of microservices that propels your business.
What happens in Orchestrator?
- Contextualization – input from devices takes on meaning for your business and for JD Edwards and EnterpriseOne applications
- Filtering – rules engine sifts through noise
- Action – mapping between an event, condition or state to an action or to a transaction
The business analysts will greatly benefit from Orchestrator because it solves problems that make your business analyst’s job much easier. Some examples include managing faulty data, such as data that is inaccurate, inconsistent or untimely, or sorting through data that is spotty, tedious or difficult to process.
Orchestrator Studio
Orchestrator Studio is a single tool built to design, test and deploy orchestrations with ease. Orchestrator Studio builds user-friendly microservices within the JD Edwards Platform as a Service (PaaS).
New features included in Orchestrator include the following:
- Access to data in JD Edwards tables
- Access to data in non-JD Edwards tables
- Access to data in One View reports
- Inbound/outbound REST
- Orchestrators that can integrate with other orchestrations
- Advanced scripting with Groovy
- Enhanced email capabilities
Why businesses need Orchestrator
We need Orchestrator simply because, as Schifano reminds us, “Business data is the lifeblood of an enterprise,” and Orchestrator grants us access to actionable information faster. Manual input, now a pre-JD Edwards relic, provided inaccurate and inconsistent data. Orchestrator Studio boosts the value of the JD Edwards system because you can build custom applications that automate processes.
Other benefits arise as users can create microservices within Orchestrator that can perform tasks like onboarding employees, sending alerts for low inventory or equipment status, creating sales orders and alerting users about credit limits.
