QXW Session Recap: All About AIS And How It Works With JD Edwards EnterpriseOne

Quest heard from Terry Pasqua, a technical support engineer from Oracle, about the application interface server (AIS) and how it integrates with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Co-presenter Manuel Nava joined her during the presentation. They discussed the “what” and “why” questions surrounding the installation, configuration and testing of AIS.

Early on in the webinar, they show us how the servers are interrelated and what information they produce. Terry emphasizes the information exchange between the AIS and JAS servers and why that matters during configurations. We’ll talk more about that in a minute.

An intro to AIS

“You can think of AIS as a scripting tool or some way to automate processes,” says Terry. The AIS server provides direct access to all the code within the Java application server (JAS). It can be used extensively with UX One and Mobile applications: in fact, one of the first applications for AIS technology was mobile applications. “We have over 80 mobile applications for phone and tablet,” Terry says. New services include barcode scanning, location services and more.

Orchestrator Studio

Orchestrator Studio is a tool that was built to create Orchestrations. It allows direct access to AIS – JAS server connection and retrieves form information. Latest additions to Orchestrator include messages, connections and Groovy scripts. Terry believes a strong incentive for using Orchestrator is its ability to implement rules and create white lists and cross references.

Installation and configuration

Steps for installing AIS on JD Edwards EnterpriseOne are fairly simple. First, you need to create the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE)server; then create a new Managed Instance. Next, you have to figure out which security information you want configured into the server and which types of logins will be allowed.

You’re now responsible for managing details like allowed hosts, watchlist execution and calls between the JAS and AIS server. Application developer framework (ADF) server can now be installed via JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Server Manager. Once configured, restart AIS and JAS servers; then click the link to test connection between servers.

A note about AIS and JAS

Both presenters stress the importance of AIS and JAS working in conjunction. According to Nava, “Tool releases and web packs (for AIS and JAS) need to be on the same level.” Some other quick troubleshooting tips include:

  • Verify allowed hosts on JAS server
  • Restart AIS and JAS servers after configuration changes
