When XL Group and Catlin May merged into XL Catlin, the CEO emphasized one main statement—an integrated company requires an integrated HR system. Seeking to move away from a variety of customized processes and disconnected systems, the newly formed XL Catlin resolved to create a consolidated system with the help of Oracle HCM Cloud and Taleo.
Bypassing the projected timeline of two years, XL Catlin executed its successful HR transformation within four months. Vice President and IT Executive Margaret Patrick describes 10 helpful tips for other companies looking to operate as one company, one HR.
- Refresh training as roles change, particularly the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
- Build a strong network within Oracle.
- Pilot new features with focus groups.
- Keep the security model design simple and revisit regularly.
- Dedicate a team to address reporting from the beginning.
- Minimize data migration.
- Follow best practices and keep up to date with changes.
- Develop a network of champions inside and outside of HR.
- Engage early with owners of related processes and systems (e.g. benefits providers).
- Ensure a strong support team with extensive product knowledge.
