In today’s workforce, businesses are continually undergoing digital transformations that will drive their organizations forward in an age of technology and modernization. Organizations must adapt in order to leverage the power of data, automation, and emerging technologies (AI, IoT, blockchain, etc.).
The question you must ask yourself is if you’re making adequate progress in the modernization of your business or if you’re hindered by 20th-century processes—spending considerable time upgrading systems and creating more data siloes with one-off cloud solutions. Is your business digitally determined or digitally distraught?
Mickey North Rizza, Program Vice President at IDC, and Juergen Lindner, Senior Vice President of Oracle SaaS, recently discussed the concept of being digitally determined or digitally distraught.
Digitally Determined
Digitally determined businesses, organizations, or individuals are those who have developed characteristics that make choices for a larger vision. They have a plan for how to execute the digital transformation of an organization. Those who are digitally determined understand that there will inevitably be hurdles throughout the journey, but they are determined to overcome them and continue moving and improving at a fast pace.
IDC cited four characteristics of being digitally determined.
- Being able to scale your business quickly
- Empowering talent excellence
- Responding to customer demands quickly
- Reducing steps in a workflow or process
Digitally Distraught
Digitally distraught businesses, individuals, or individuals can be indecisive about which business processes should be transformed. In their eyes, growing the business seems like a limited option. They are likely involved in continuous cost-cutting measures in attempts to regroup from legacy investments. It’s also possible that they have trouble choosing the right partners to help them make decisions about transforming their business.
