Quest has introduced a number of new features and improvements to its TOAD tool for application developers, most notably a new social intelligence component and many usability features. The 11.5 release includes enhancements to query builder functionality, lets you customize and save multiple interface layouts as templates, and has improved integration between the editor windows and object browsers to provide faster access to the object browser elements. Query Builder has been improved with ERD tool functionality and a more intuitive toolset interface. Tab support has been added for the object browsers right in the editor window to give one-click access to the object tree while coding. And Code Analysis has been enhanced to include additional rules such as naming conventions and the ability to create custom rules The new version is available for both trial and all commercial release packages for immediate download at support dot quest dot com
EMC ‘s Data Domain (or DD) Boost can now be managed from within Oracle’s RMAN Recovery Manager. DD Boost provides advanced integration between EMC’s deduplication storage systems and applications for faster, more efficient backup and recovery. The DD Boost software distributes part of the deduplication process to the Oracle database server and enables RMAN to directly manage data domain replication. For DBAs who prefer to use Oracle RMAN this enhancement allows you to manage your onsite and offsite backup copies by controlling replication from within Recovery Manager. For EMC customers, this additional data compression process further reduces the amount of data being transferred and thus conserves the associated LAN bandwidth and hard storage required.
