OpenWorld Tokyo 2012
At OpenWorld Tokyo 2012 Oracle addressed the need to make IT infrastructure and business analytics technologies simpler and more efficient. In addition to presenting its strategy and plans for business analytics, the company also unveiled new additions to its product portfolio.
Oracle president Mark Hurd went on to outline four strategies that seek to position Oracle as the premier IT company. First, “From hardware, operating systems, databases, applications, we’re going to be best-of-breed,” he said, adding that the company is spending roughly $5 billion in R&D this year. Second, Oracle aims to vertically integrate to deliver extreme performance and lower TCO. Third, Oracle is, “building out their industry vertical solutions.” And finally to bring a “new generation of applications via the cloud” built on common middleware.
Oracle’s Business Analytics Portfolio
One of the new products in the Oracle Business Analytics line is Endeca Information Discovery, whose general availability was announced at the conference. This product provides automated data modeling. Oracle also announced two new BI applications – Oracle Manufacturing Analytics and Oracle Enterprise Asset Management Analytics – the first and only analytic applications for manufacturing and asset management analysis and will enable users in the manufacturing and asset-intensive industries to gain better insights and make decisions faster. Native support for tablet and mobile devices, such as the Apple iPad and iPhone is also provided. Also released are new BI applications for SAP Sales & Distribution and Materials Management; and EPM System Release 11.1.2.2.
New Oracle World Record Performances
Oracle announced two more world record benchmark results delivered by its software and hardware. The world record was achieved on the SPEC jEnterprise2010 benchmark, with Oracle WebLogic Server 12c, Database 11gR2 on Oracle Linux R2 on Oracle’s Sun Fire X4800 M2 server. The benchmark is based on real-world ERP, manufacturing, and supply chain management business cases.
In addition, an x86 world record TPC-C benchmark result was set with the same server, running Oracle Fusion Middleware with Tuxedo. Data files were distributed across four F5100 Flash Arrays. In this benchmark, popular for comparing OLTP performance on various configurations, Oracle achieved 5,055,888 transactions per minute (tpmC) with a price/performance of only 89 cents per transaction per minute
Oracle Database 11g now holds the TPC-C performance world record for all x86 systems, as well as the overall world record. And Oracle WebLogic Server now holds the x86 world record and a single node world record, in addition to holding the overall world record based upon the latest benchmark.
