How You Can Develop an Automated ERP with JD Edwards

Automated-ERP

The first step to automate JD Edwards is to upgrade to Enterprise 9.2, if you haven’t already done so, and begin implementing the many technologies made available to you. Tools like Orchestrator, notifications, process recorder, and citizen developer tools that have been released over the last few years are the building blocks of making JD Edwards an automated ERP. An automated ERP is an intelligent ERP that not only configures and patches itself but will learn about your business processes and assist you in making decisions.

An autonomous ERP puts intelligence into the ERP. When this happens, people work less, and machines work more.

Building Blocks to an Automated ERP: JD Edwards Automation Enablers

JD Edwards is delivering a platform and technologies that enable an automated ERP. A few core building blocks to developing an automated ERP include:

  • Robotic Process Automation (RPA)
  • Immersive experience
  • Machine learning
  • Orchestrator
  • Mobile applications
  • UX One
  • Personalization
  • Citizen Developer Frameworks
  • Server Manager REST APIs

Robotic Process Automation (RPA)

RPA enables you to configure computer software or a “robot” to capture and interpret existing applications for processing a transaction, manipulating data, triggering responses and communicating with other digital systems. JD Edwards Orchestrator is your starting point for RPA. Orchestrator receives input, with rules, then creates automation of those rules.

Immersive Experience

Immersive Experience is the presentation of artificial environments that replicate the real world. It’s a dynamic mix of virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, and enhanced input devices.

Machine Learning

Machine Learning builds up evidence for the answers it finds by looking at thousands of pieces of text that give it a level of confidence in its conclusion. An example is using IoT data and the Orchestrator to determine the condition of in-service equipment in order to predict when maintenance should be performed before a failure occurs.

Orchestrator

The Orchestrator is one of the most significant enhancements to JD Edwards EnterpriseOne because it’s not just a new feature—it will transform how you use your entire JD Edwards system. The data that you entrust to your JD Edwards system—your financial records, your inventory, your manufacturing processes, your project data—are the lifeblood of your business and a reflection of your enterprise itself.

Your business data is a digital twin of your enterprise. Therefore, it’s of utmost importance to keep that data accurate and up to date, to make business decisions based on that data, and to exchange that data in the ever-broadening digital economy. Orchestrator automates the collection, processing, and exchange of data, putting you on the path to Autonomous ERP.

Mobile Applications

Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Mobile Enterprise Applications enable the mobile workforce to accelerate business execution on their device of choice. Users easily get up and running with a modern user interface and role-based, fit for purpose applications.

UX One

JD Edwards UX One gives you choice and control by providing you options to personalize and configure your user experience. The Alert, Analyze, Act design principle displays your most important decision-making data in one location—a role-based landing page. When you sign into JD Edwards EnterpriseOne using a UX One role, you can view alerts, analyze critical data in a graphical format, and take action on the alerts using pre-defined tasks.

Personalization

JD Edwards has been helping users personalize the experience on EnterpriseOne for a decade now. With personalization options available, you do not have to customize. You can create your own experience to meet the user interface business requirements.

Personalization frameworks not only help you cut costs on customization but enable you to meet requirements at a rapid pace. Use the citizen developers in your organization to reduce the amount you spend on customizations.

Citizen Developer Frameworks

Citizen Developers are the business analysts and other non-developers who leverage JD Edwards Configuration, Extensibility, and Personalization platforms to configure solutions that enable their business processes, and the end-users who personalize it to meet their individual needs.

By leveraging citizen develop frameworks, you can lower TCO and increase employee satisfaction.

Your business analysts know what solutions they need to meet business requirements. Why not enable them to configure the solutions instead of using your more limited programmer resources? You can reduce the total cost of ownership by:

  • Using configuration, extensibility, and personalization to reduce the need for customizations
  • Putting the power to configure EnterpriseOne in the hands of those who best know what solutions are needed
  • Reducing dependencies on your more limited programmer resources

You can also enable employees to extend and personalize EnterpriseOne for efficiency and better user experience. Your end-users know how they work in the EnterpriseOne interface, so why not enable them to extend and personalize the interface to make their daily tasks more efficient and enjoyable? You can improve the EnterpriseOne user-experience by:

  • Empowering employees to make choices about how they complete their tasks
  • Enabling end-users to personalize the interface with watch lists, saved queries, grid formats, and more
  • Enabling end-users and business partners to create new functionality within existing JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications

Server Manager REST APIs

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Server Manager provides REST API framework to perform common Server Manager operations. You can use the Server Manager REST APIs from any REST client such as cURL, Ruby, Postman, and ARC. This enables exposing the Server Manager Console and Agents functionality without the need to use the Server Manager UI.

The Server Manager REST APIs are certified with the latest versions of WebLogic Application Servers, starting with the 9.2.1 Tools release. They are invoked by the JD Edwards One Click Provisioning process internals to automate the provisioning of EnterpriseOne in Oracle Cloud.
