Bruce Bender, ERP system administrator at Dutch Valley Foods, collaborates with Will Fisher, CNC and technical consultant, to talk about how Cafe One frames are helping them preserve employee productivity within their organizations.
About the companies
Dutch Valley Foods is a distributor of spices, meats and cheeses located in eastern Pennsylvania. Brij is one of the oldest JD Edwards resellers around, offering support services, upgrades and services, consulting and more for businesses nationwide.
Cafe One intro
Cafe One stands for Composite Applications Framework and delivers a user-friendly method of consolidating diverse web applications into a single framework. The speakers define Cafe One as a non-development way to build composite applications.
Benefits of Cafe One include:
- You can solve end-user adoption issues
- You get access to disparate information
- You can modify applications and add fields easily
- You can make quick revisions within each screen
Bender starts the presentation with his opinion that Cafe One is one of the most neglected features in JD Edwards, so we need to bring it to light. Cafe One’s solutions combine a high value with a low effort, so the presenters believe that this application demonstrates a great example of a high-ROI application.
Bender emphasizes that Cafe One can do so much, but it’s up to users to find that most suitable use case for your business. Brand new capabilities involve changes to end user positioning and personalization, layout sharing and support for iPad apps.
Some possible utilizations include:
- Address book and supply master
- Accounts receivable and credit
- General accounting and projects
- Human capital management
- Sales and customer service
- Item mastery and inventory
- Manufacturing
Here are a couple housekeeping notes before you jump into using the tools, though: some websites don’t allow embedding within their site, so keep on the lookout for that. Also, some masked or hidden fields can’t be mapped, and it’s easy to ignore the “datatype mismatch” warning.
Other than that, Cafe One is fast, easy to use and speaks to many needs of today’s workforce. “It’s as simple as dragging and dropping,” says Fisher. “Almost anything that’s web-based can be put into Cafe One.”
