C19: Utilizing Oracle Logistics Cloud in the Future of Logistics and Fulfillment

Logistics-and-Fullfillment

Joan Lim, Product Marketing for Oracle Supply Chain Management (SCM) Cloud, presented at COLLABORATE 19 about important considerations to keep in mind when moving to the Cloud and how Oracle Logistics Cloud enables customers to become future-ready through improving global visibility, optimizing operations, orchestrating processes, and achieving better business outcomes.

With supply chains continuously evolving and becoming more complex, the future of your business depends on your ability to adapt and support changing customer demands and fulfillment options.

How to Improve Logistics and Fulfillment

According to interviews with 522 supply chain managers, Oracle found that there are three areas that are considered important when thinking about a long-term logistics strategy:

  1. Maintaining high levels of customer service
  2. Lowering costs
  3. Improving efficiencies and productivity in logistics operations

Additionally, these interviews revealed that the top three aspects that supply chain managers believe need to be improved include:

  1. Understanding and controlling costs
  2. Shipment planning—rates, routes, modes, load consolidation, etc.
  3. In-transit visibility

Today, there are several challenges in supply chain and logistics. Expanding demand and fulfillment options by being ready and able to capture and fulfill and ship orders anywhere and at any time is one challenge. Time to market pressure and customization is another challenge. Some additional challenges include shrinking product life cycles, more new product introductions, ensuring that global shipments meet all compliance rules, and maintaining satisfied customers by making goods readily available.

Supply chains are affected by constant disruptions like society, competitors, technology, business models, and government. There are four P’s – four core items that will impact your supply chain:

  • Products
  • Processes
  • Partners
  • People

Global Trade Management is the processes involved with move goods, information, and money across geographical and fiscal borders and between parties. It typically starts with a Purchase Order or Sales Order and includes functional groups and external parties. There are over 600 laws and regulations pertaining to Global Trade Management, and there are 25 entities and 35 documents in a typical transaction.

Global Trade Management remains a manual process. In many key areas, most companies have no automated capability. This creates competitive risk, profit risk, and regulatory risk. Competitive risk involves a more efficient and effective logistics network with a competitive advantage. Profit risk is more tightly managed trade practices that result in improved margins through cost savings. Regulatory risks are fines and other costs implications surrounding an inefficiently run trade operation.

Global Trade Management Cloud is a single platform to manage worldwide trade through Product Classification, Restricted Party and Sanction Screening, Landed Cost Simulator, and Content Management. Product Classification classifies products for global import and export and analyzes related duties, taxes, and regulations. Restricted Party and Sanction Screening screens parties against government lists and screens transactions for sanctions and embargoes. Landed Cost Simulator analyzes scenarios to determine the best sourcing options and includes duties, taxes, transportation, and more. Content Management manages global regulatory content in a single system and manages tariffs, export control lists, munitions and more.

In regard to Trade Agreements, Global Trade Management Cloud provides Origin Management, Trade Program Eligibility Screening, and Campaign Management. You can manage the country of origin and differentiate the origin by Inventory Organization and Trading Partner for multi-sourcing. Users are able to screen items for potential duty savings and analyze items for Trade Programs. Global Trade Management Cloud also allows you to solicit suppliers with large scale campaigns and run large scale campaigns to gather origin and certificates from suppliers.
