ARRIS Digital Transformation – Challenge Today Change Tomorrow: Our Cloud Journey

Christina Yue, Customer Learning Manager |

This video gives a 360-degree view of a company’s journey to the cloud. ARRIS professionals from IT Project Management, Human Resources and IT Business Systems join their system implementation partner from PwC to share their perspectives on the company’s journey to the cloud. Throughout the video, the team shares their advice with others about making the revolutionary leap.

Heidi Yates, an HR professional at ARRIS, leads a Hire to Retire program at ARRIS, the telecom company recognized as leader in the technology industry with 20 Emmys® for their work transforming entertainment & communication. Yates refers to ARRIS before the cloud journey as being “comfortable” with PeopleSoft. This didn’t prevent them from being excited to make the leap to the cloud, though. During the presentation, she gives several reasons why ARRIS values Oracle Cloud. The company has 6,000+ employees in 30+ countries and their journey was well managed and coordinated.

Terry McLaughlin, ARRIS, delineates exactly what steps it took to make that journey a success. As project managers can relate, she talks about “scope creep,”-uncontrolled changes or continuous growth in a project’s scope. Her work addressing scope creep includes change management strategies and communication techniques that she shares during the presentation.

As an IT Business Systems professional at ARRIS, David Elliott describes his perspective on the cloud journey. “Oracle delivered us an environment,” he says, but his team was responsible for the steps after the delivery. He describes preparing the environment to turn it over for others to implement. Specifically, he talks in the video about the size of technical cloud project tasks, cloud pod environments, data conversion, interface development and knowledge transfer to users.

Brittany Hovell, with PwC, describes her role in the ARRIS cloud journey as primarily providing guidance. With PwC’s extensive experience with cloud journeys, she can point out common implementation missteps. PwC works closely with Oracle which helps her to leverage the relationship for the benefit of companies like ARRIS. She is also able to help get the important buy-in from company leadership.
